Attention or concentration is probably the most important essential in the development of mind culture. The possibilities of attention, when properly directed, are so startling, that they would hardly appear credible to the uninitiated. The cultivation of attention is the distinguishing characteristic of every successful man or woman, and is the very highest personal accomplishment which can be acquired. Haanel 6:19
Concentration
If I stare at the above image with complete focus, there is an illusion of movement. The power of concentration has become more and more scarce with the development and availability of electronic devices that feed our appetites of instant gratification.
However, all is not lost. As Haanel so succinctly writes, it
is the very highest personal accomplishment which can be acquired.
Small Achievements
Through the little exercises of this Master Key Experience, I develop small achievements. These achievements, also called SUCCESS, build up ever so subtly.
Then, one day, I find myself standing tall, head high, and excited about the future, even though, that thing I thought was ‘success’, that was always out of my reach, is still not attained. BUT, the size of it seems so very small and manageable.
What changed?
My attention/concentration. By focusing on the object of my desire and consistently taking baby steps to that end, I arrive at what I have always thought to be impossible.
Here it is, right in front of me. All because I cultivated my attention on moving forward toward my goal, without wasting thought on the HOW.
So grateful!!!
Yes the attention on your desire, is the slight edge in life. :))
Thanks, Roz! You exemplify that!
Love it. “By focusing on the object of my desire and consistently taking baby steps to that end, I arrive at what I have always thought to be impossible.” Such great insight!
Thank you for your kind words!
Louise, I just love this image and have used it, too, as a background zoom. But I’d never thought to focus on it and see it move. Thank you for that. And thanks for the reminder to have “cultivated my attention on moving forward toward my goal, without wasting through on the HOW.” We are so blessed in this MasterMind, aren’t we?
Yes, indeed, Shirley. We are so very blessed. It has taken some time to redirect my focus from HOW to GOAL.
Cool use of the image as a virtual background. You have given me such a great idea! Thank you! Many blessings!
